Musings and ramblings related the Burda family

Monday, March 28, 2005

As you can tell, we had a great time in Trenton, NE. Stacy has started a new project. She is collecting the histories of the Manley family. Both of my Grandparents (Leo and Cecilia) passed away in the last few years. The Stupka family has already done this for their family of 12 (that is 10 kids and 2 parents).

We read some of the stories while in Trenton, the histories that we read were amazing. Jerry and Rita both remember the blizzards in the winter season of 48-49. This winter season was a subject of a recent Nebraska Life magazine article.

Jerry remembers when electricity was first brought to their home. It lasted only a few days before the blizzard struck turning off the power. Rita told stories of milking cows and extracting the cream from the milk. The milking stool that Tristan sits (in one of the pictures) was probably a stool that Rita used when milking cows.

Jerry also told stories of eating sandwiches made of sugar and lard. It appears that fresh lard is better.

Fast-forward to Sunday night. Stacy and I were driving home. During our drive, Stacy played a game called Caribbean Puzzles. The game was developed by a friend of mine (Kostya) from Ukraine. I knew later that night or first thing in the morning, I would e-mail Kostya with suggestions on the wording for his game.

In addition to receiving an e-mail from Kostya. I received an e-mail from a friend in Israel who had seen the blog. I also received an e-mail from my friend Alex who know lives in Dubai.

It is an amazing progress of history from the emergence of electricity to the instantaneous worldwide communication.

I can only wonder what Cecilia and Tristan will see.
