Surprises

Jerry Stupka, my father-in-law, asked me if we had any surprises with our new home. The only challenge we have had is that we were not sure where the light for the garage. That is found. It is under the shelves near the door.

As for surprises, our previous house (819) still surprises us. From carpeting without pads to tile that was laid with gallons of glue I have come to realize that the previous owner never met a corner they did not cut.

Last night, Stacy and I removed tiles from the downstairs. The process to remove tile in the basement was tedious. Even after the tiles were removed there was enough glue that we had to forcibly lift our feet to break the contact.

True to form, our previous owners were not consistent. This "extra glue" was applied in one area but not the other.

I hope to post pictures soon. The hardwood floors in the upstairs were sanded and varnished. We will place carpet in the downstairs and linoleum in the two bathrooms. I am excited to see how it looks.

I fell.

It had to happen or so they say that you will invariably fall when riding a bike with clips.

I had been fortunate that I had not fallen since December when my family purchased the clips.

Unfortunately, I feel a few weeks ago as I tried to cross O street at 27th. I did not gauge traffic accurately and need to circle back to avoid eastbound traffic. When I did, I fell. Nothing hurt except my pride.

A similar thing happened when I crossed Capitol Parkway at 27th. I fell when I tried to press the button located on the median.

The good news is that I realized that there is an underpass which will allow me to avoid crossing Capitol Parkway.

As for O street, I just need to be a little smarter...
